Phuleshwari was born into a poor village family in Siliguri of West Bengal. At the tender age of 12 she was married off as a co-wife to a man more than twice her age. In a family struggling with poverty, she spent her youth working hard as a labor hand in rice paddy fields, and in the trainyard where her husband worked. Despite their joint labor efforts, they rarely could afford to purchase more than vegetables, and the family suffered malnutrition. Eventually, Phuleshwari's husband died from paralysis when she was only 40 years old, leaving her without care or support. Her co-wife's son treated her with great disdain, and eventually, she left for Vrindavan to dedicate the remainder of her life to her spiritual pursuits. Today she cooks meals for the widowed community in Radha Kunda and keeps Shyama Kunda beautiful and restored.
