To the saintly devotees of the Lord, headed by Prahlāda, Nārada, Parāśara, Puṇḍarīka, Vyāsa, Ambarīṣa, Śuka, Śaunaka, Bhīṣma, Dalbhya, Rukmāṅgada, Uddhava, Vibhīṣaṇa, and Arjuna, I offer my respectful obeisances. (Padyāvalī 52)
The painting shows three of the persons in this prayer — Nārada, Bhīṣma, and Arjuna — as protectors on bhakti’s shining path. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.84.57–58 describes how these three persons were together at Kurukṣetra during an extended period before and after a solar eclipse.
