September 2017

Today is the first day of the holy month of Kartika! This is Srimati Radharani’s special month, the month most dear to Krishna. We hope this update finds you happily experiencing the sweet sanctity of this special month. We finished renovations to our prasadam distribution facility in Radha Kunda – new flooring, roofing, and walls. It is now a more welcoming space for the ladies who come here daily for hot, fresh, wholesome meals. It is common during this month to take up a vrata, or vow of austerity in order to reduce bodily demands and offer oneself in service and surrender to the Supreme Lord. At our ladies’ request, we will be simplifying the meals using only very basic spicing and vegetables. It is our great honor to be able to facilitate their sadhana or spiritual practices. You may have noticed that the tiles of the Lalita Kunda benches were chipping and badly in need of repair. Now they are covered with red standstone! …a hardy and durable material which should stand the test of time and use. As usual, the daily cleaning continues. The Kartika crowds are already here! We are prepared for a month of festive chaos. Please browse our latest photos and join our efforts by visiting www.radharani.com. August 2017

Deity forms of Sri Sri Radha Krishna came to us this month – gifts from a kind pujari in Radha Kunda. Gandharvika Giridhari are their names. To celebrate Janmastami, we worshipped them with an abhiseka bath, kirtan and arati. Then we fed 120 Radha Kunda widows a sumptuous feast and gave gifts of clothing, sweets, and laksmi to them and to our workers. We were grateful for Tulsi Mataji’s service to our ladies during her visit to Radha Kunda. Thanks also to you, our sponsors who made this festival possible. And thank you to the kind donors who came to Radha Kunda laden with many gifts of clothing for our ladies. We put in a new roof, walls, and flooring in the facility we use in Radha Kunda. The roof in particular will make the building more functional and weather proof. As always, cleaning and food distribution continued daily. We are feeling very blessed by the appearance of Gandarvika Giridhari, our new deities of Radha and Krishna. Two of our ladies, sisters and longtime residents of Radha Kunda, have eagerly accepted responsibility for their care. July 2017

July 9th was Guru Purnima day, the biggest parikrama day of the year. It was a hot day and very humid. But the pilgrims poured in, undeterred, filling the parikrama path from early morning to late at night, some of them carrying children or heavy bags throughout the 13 mile (21 kilometer) trek. The local newspaper estimated that 80 lakhs of people did parikrama! That’s eight million people! There were even helicopters offering aerial circumambulation of Govardhana and Radha Kunda for 2500 rupees a person. (That’s really very cheap for a helicopter ride) As you can see in the photos, the government blocked off all the possible entrances to Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda to prevent potential accidents resulting from the crowd jostling each other in the water. For us, it meant lots of excitement, and lots more cleaning! We are happy to share with you that we will be expanding our prasadam distribution this month to locations in Varshana and Govardhana. As word is spreading that we have been steadily feeding the widows of Radha Kunda for so many years, residents of other areas have approached us to express a need for similar distribution programs in their locations. And with your blessings and support, we are ready to say, “Yes!” Please browse our latest photos and join our efforts by visiting www.radharani.com . June 2017

Lord Jagannatha’s Rathayatra cart passed through Radha Kunda this month and we took the opportunity to offer Him halava, fruit and garlands. The heat was oppressive and difficult as it usually is this time of year, but the parikrama path was as crowded as ever on Purnima day (June 10th) and pilgrims were grateful for some chenna prasada. The garden at Sakhi Kunda is lush and beautiful and clear, sweet water is still flowing at the kunda despite many challenges with people over-using and breaking the pump. We are feeding the Radha Kunda widows and cleaning daily thanks to your continued support. Please browse our latest photos and join our efforts by visiting www.radharani.com. May 2017

We are happy to report that in this blazing hot month of May, our service in Radha Kunda continued peacefully and steadily. We welcomed a new lady onto our cleaning team, installed lights around Jihva Mandir for nighttime circumambulation (parikrama), and relished the daily opportunity to clean the Dhama and feed its residents. Thank you for your continued support and blessings. Please browse our latest photos and join our efforts by visiting www.radharani.com. April 2017

April was a peaceful month of steady seva – cleaning and prasadam distribution. No new demolitions! The temple still stands! With our newly received permission, we are back to feeding parikrama pilgrims every Purnima (full moon). They sure do work up an appetite making the 13 mile/21 kilometer trek around Govardhan, and nicely spiced chickpeas with their high protein content are perfect for that much-needed energy boost. Today is Nrsimha Chaturdasi, the most wondrous appearance of the half man, half lion form of the Supreme Lord who appeared to save His young boy devotee, Prahlad. On this day we are praying to Him to protect our service from any and all obstacles and hindrances. Please browse our latest photos and join our efforts by visiting www.radharani.com. March 2017

7000 buildings around the parikrama path had been marked for demolition, and demolished they were. March was a traumatic month for many Govardhan residents …and for us as well when we saw a giant red X painted on the pillar of our temple freshly built at the front end of our property. So far, by Radha and Krishna’s mercy, the government has spared our temple, instead only knocking down the front gate and some of the wall encircling our land. We will put up a temporary fence to replace the broken wall. And our construction managers are cautiously recommending that we delay the building of the kitchen and residence facilities a few months until after the mayhem has died down. And so we wait. With the help of a lawyer, we have now received official permission from the Radha Kunda district magistrate to reinstate feeding chenna prasada to parikrama pilgrims and to continue cleaning all around Radha Kunda. And so with a new sense of confidence and your steady support, we continue the daily service of cleaning and prasadam distribution in Radha Kunda. February 2017

February was a peaceful month of steady service. Cleaning every day. Distributing prasadam every day. Construction is still on hold as we wait for the government crackdown on structures built close to the parikrama path to dissipate. 7000 buildings around Govardhan have been marked for demolition. And our construction managers tell us that this isn’t a good time to begin new construction. We will keep you updated, and in the meantime, we are grateful to be serving at Radha Kunda with you. January 2017

We are grateful that, with your support, cleaning and prasadam distribution are steadily continuing. Today is Nityananda Trayodasi and as we share last month’s photos with you, we are meditating on Nitai’s soothing mercy and praying that we will always reside in and serve Radha Kunda and Govardhan by His grace. Efforts are ongoing to expand our service and we will update you about the various projects in progress as we have more to share. Thank you for being part of the team!
