About Jihva Mandir

Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami felt great anxiety seeing that the waters of Radha Kunda were being used for toilet business or washing clothes. So he ordered the construction of a new well on the eastern side of Sri Shyama Kunda at a site where the gopis once had a well. At a certain depth, the workers came across a large stone which they tried to remove with an iron tool. The stone was struck in three places and blood was seen to come from it. When Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami was informed of this, he ordered the work to be stopped, afraid that some offence might have been commited. While he contemplated on this matter that night, the great form of Sri Krishna which was shown to Nanda Maharaja at the time of the Giriraj-Govardhan Puja, appeared to him and informed him that his, (Govardhana’s) tongue was hit unknowingly. Krishna ordered Raghunatha dasa Goswami to remove the stone, install it in a temple and worship it daily with tulasi leaves and Radha Kunda water. Even now, three blackish marks may be seen on the tongue.
