December 2014

Happy New Year, dear friends! A Baba from Badrinatha is celebrating the New Year in Radha Kunda with an offering of 108 tons of food preparations for Srimati Radharani! 2015 is being welcomed with fireworks, heaps of prasad laid out along Radha Kunda’s stairs, and brilliant décor draped from Radha Kunda’s temples. Tomorrow, January 2nd, the Badrinatha Baba plans to feed all the villagers in the thirty or so villages surrounding the Radha Kunda area. It brings us great happiness to witness Vaishnavas doing such wondrous service at Radha Kunda.

And it gives us even greater happiness to report that with your support, the Radha Kunda area is being cleaned every day, the restoration work at Sakhi Kunda is progressing nicely, and our adopted widows were served a special feast this month in addition to their daily meal. So many of you donated for Sakhi Kunda through the YouCaring page. Thank you! That page has expired but we now have our own. Check it out at… http://radharani.com/sakhi-kunda/

We’re still hoping to share the promotional video that Prananatha Prabhu created for our project with you all soon. At the moment, we are waiting for permission from the music producers to use their music. Meanwhile, we are ironing out details related to transferring our new land to the name of our trust and working out the plans for a kitchen and office there.

Thank you, friends. We feel deep gratitude to be allowed this opportunity to serve Srimati Radharani and Her people by your mercy.

November 2014

November saw a diminishing of crowds and temperatures, and an acceleration of our renovation work at Sakhi Kunda, also known as Lilavati Kunda. Despite many obstacles, much progress has been made there. Please help by joining us at. http://www.youcaring.com/nonprofits/help-radha-kunda-seva/249260 Thank you!

When our workers dug deep to install a submersible pump, we were thrilled to discover sweet water 45 feet down. Apparently, this is the only sweet water within a three mile radius and this is the water that will fill Lilavati Kunda! We are taking this as a blessed sign from Radha and Krishna that They are pleased with our endeavor to clean and beautify Sakhi Kunda.

It should be noted that we have been serving breakfast to fifteen widows at Radha Kunda. This means, that with your support, we are feeding 45 widows in Radha Kunda daily! We also distributed kichari twice this month to hundreds of pilgrims. With your blessings, we hope that our prasadam distribution seva will increase very soon.

As mentioned in last month’s update, we are planning to construct a large kitchen near Radha Kunda capable eventually of feeding every hungry woman and child in the Govardhan/Radha Kunda area. (And maybe some sadhu men too. 😉 )

Prananatha Prabhu, our incredibly talented and artistic video man, is nearly done adding the finishing touches to a short film that tells the story or our seva here. This video, along with a webpage describing our plans for building a kitchen, should be available for your browsing pleasure shortly. We are still in awe that this land was provided for our project just as we were discovering the need for it, and we are hoping to make good use of it soon.

As always, the cleaning continues. The feeding continues. The beautification continues. And the plans for increasing the service continue to expand.

October 2014

Today is the final day of Srimati Radharani’s hallowed month, the month of Damodara also known as Kartik. As we expected, the opportunities for service are pouring in faster than we can keep up with them!

Cleaning, of course, is more challenging during this month with the high volume of pilgrims coming through. But on top of that, we have started work on Sakhi Kunda beginning with draining the water so that we can clean the bottom of the kunda and install a submersible pump to keep the water clean in the long run. Thank you so much to all of you who have supported our fund-raising drive to clean and beautify this kunda. http://www.youcaring.com/nonprofits/help-radha-kunda-seva/249260

In addition, we fed around 2000 parikrama pilgrims – halava on Govardhan Puja, and kichari on Gopastami. We are still feeding 30 widows and caring for Gurudasi daily, but more widows in need are coming forward. Besides the widows, there are so many malnourished street children here who would be greatly benefitted by regular nutritious meals. We are strongly feeling the need for our own land with our own kitchen.

By Srimati Radhika’s sweet mercy, our search for land has ended. “Food For Life Vrindavana” and “Padma Charitable Trust” have recently finalized the acquisition of a large parcel of land less than a kilometer from Radha kunda. We are going to construct a first class kitchen with the capability to feed 10,000 people every day. More to come…

Meanwhile, we are being blessed by a visit from Prananatha Prabhu, a helicopter/video expert who has volunteered his time to help us put together a film that will document and artfully communicate our various service missions here in the Radha Kunda/Govardhan area.

We are so grateful for your continued support.

September 2014

Last month’s update happened to fall on Srimati Radharani’s Appearance Day, and as we looked back at our years of humble service in Her Holy Land, we celebrated the magnanimity of Her kindness. Now we are looking ahead to the busiest time of year in Braj – the month of Kartika, Radha’s very own special month. To maintain the same level of cleanliness at this time is challenging. But, as usual, we are considering ways to increase the service for Her pleasure and by Her mercy.

Up until now, we’ve been using extra income from one-time donations to feed parikrama pilgrims every Purnima. Now, with sponsorship from His Grace Harry Kumra, we are establishing this as a regular service and upping the prasada distribution to reach 1000 pilgrims instead of 500. Please see… http://radharani.com/kitriforparikrama/

In other news, we have completed the formation of a trust in India under the name of Padma Charitable Trust. Until now we’ve been operating under our nonprofit corporation in the USA and it’s such a relief to be properly established as a charitable organization in India also. With a properly established trust and connected bank account, it will be so much easier to maintain and expand the service. Jai Sri Radhe!

We are excited to see what new opportunities for service this month of Kartika will bring. Please browse our latest photos and join our efforts by visiting www.radharani.com. Thank you for your support! Your servants, Mayapurcandra dasa, Campakalata Devi dasi, and Padmavati Devi dasi.

August 2014

Today, September 2nd 2014 on the most auspicious day of Srimati Radharani’s Appearance, we are feeling unlimitedly fortunate to be engaged in some small service for Her pleasure.

It is only by Her causeless mercy that we are able to try and keep Her pastime place, Radha Kunda clean. It is only by Her merciful glance that we are able to, in some small way, beautify Her playground with gardens and murals. It is only by Her grace that we are able to offer some service to Her maidservants, the widow residents of Her sporting ground, Radha Kunda.

And it is by Her divine inspiration that so many kind-hearted Vaishnavas have stepped forward to support this service.

Before Srimati Radhika descended to this planet Earth, Vrindavan came in all its beauty and splendor to facilitate Her pleasure pastimes with Her Beloved. If we can help to beautify this Holy Land for Her continued pleasure, we consider ourselves most lucky.

July 2014

We are happy to report that Guru dasi’s health has been improving. With your monthly contributions, we purchased an air cooler which has given her significant relief from the heat.

And… we are now feeding 30 widows every evening! Thanks to your generous donations, we are giving them substantial meals with varieties of food preparations. And within two months we expect to increase the number of recipients to 50 widows! …double the number we are serving now. Thank you for making this service possible.

July 12th was Guru Purnima, the biggest parikrama day of the year …and our biggest challenge in terms of keeping up with the cleaning. Like last year, the government built bamboo fences around the kundas to prevent pilgrims from bathing. See the photos to find out how that went… 🙂

The cleaning continues around Radha Kunda. And we are hoping to soon expand the cleaning down the parikrama path towards Govardhan. Please join us on Balarama Purnima (August 10th) for 30 minutes of chanting the Holy Name in prayer to Lord Balarama asking that He please allow us to serve the Dhama by cleaning the entire Govardhan area. http://radharani.com/balarama/

June 2014

Thank you, dear supporters! Your generosity has brought us to our $500 per month goal to feed Radha Kunda’s widows! We were feeding ten at first and have already increased that number to fifteen! We are serving rotis (Braj style chapatis) and sabji to them every evening. Our crew is very inspired to do this service. And thanks to your ongoing support, we will be able to continue it indefinitely! 🙂 🙂 🙂

The rains have started to bring some relief, but the heat of the summer season has made its mark. The widow we’ve been caring for, Gurudasi, has become very ill. Thankfully, we have been able to provide for her medical care with your kind support.

Cleaning and beautifying continue and once again, we served kichari to parikrama pilgrims on Purnima (full moon) day. We have received full permission to renovate and garden at Sakhi Kunda but we’ll need to wait till the end of monsoon season to begin work there.

May 2014

We are excited to report that, thanks to your contributions, we will be serving evening meals to the widows of Radha Kunda for at least the next couple of months! During these months, we hope to find a few more generous Radha Kunda Bhaktas to join the endeavor so that it can continue long term. Thank you to those who have given already!

Please visit http://radharani.com/evening-meals-for-widows/ to contribute to this cause.

The daily cleaning seva continues despite the oppressive heat. We are seeking permission to start the previously described (see the April album) renovations and gardening at Sakhi Kunda.

April 2014

Our artist, Nalinaksi has returned to finish the Jihva Mandir paintings! We are very happy to welcome her back and watch her bring Krishna’s pastimes to life on the temple walls.

Plans are moving along for a garden at Sakhi Kunda. The hope is to build a stone shrine within the garden to honor Candravali Devi and Her sakhis. We are researching the possibility of cleaning the kunda itself and considering ways to keep the water clean enough for aquatic and plant life. This month we installed a second gate and patched up crumbling walls.

On Purnima, the biggest parikrama day of the month, we distributed kichari to the many pilgrims. We are still hopeful that with your support we will be able to do this service daily for the widows who need it. Thank you to those who have given already! Please visit http://radharani.com/evening-meals-for-widows/ to contribute to this cause.

The heat has hit Vraj hard with temperatures reaching 110 degrees (45 Celsius), but our crew is still out there every day doing their cleaning seva. We are grateful to them and in awe of their dedication to this service.

March 2014

Our search for widows in need has led to the discovery that many of the older widows, the ones who have difficulty caring for themselves, are only receiving one meal per day. We are hoping to be able to provide them a second meal. Please visit http://radharani.com/evening-meals-for-widows/ to contribute to this project.

February 2014

Great news this month! We received permission to start cleaning and renovating Sakhi Kunda! Seven months we waited, but no more. Cleaning has begun there with gusto.

Meanwhile, daily cleaning and gardening is continuing all around Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda and at nearby Mukharai Kunda. Thanks to your generous donations we have also started to care for Guru dasi. She still awaits a monthly sponsor for her everyday needs. Please visit http://radharani.com/guru-dasi/ to sponsor her care.

January 2014

Our search for a widow in need has brought us to 90-year-old Guru dasi. To find out more about her, see the photos of her in this album. Please visit http://radharani.com/guru-dasi/ to sponsor her care.

Daily cleaning and garden upkeep is continuing in spite of the frigid temperatures. We are looking into the possibility of cleaning Brahma Kunda in Govardhan near Manasi Ganga. And we are happy to report that others have caught the cleaning bug and that Sankarsana Kunda in Aniyor Village has been cleaned up and is undergoing major renovation!
